Hundreds protest in Berlin in support of Iran's protest movement - Iran’s protests escalate as global leaders back demonstrators against regime

Protests against Iran’s authoritarian government have spread across the country for more than two weeks. What began as anger over economic hardship has turned into a wider uprising. Security forces have met demonstrators with violent crackdowns, drawing international attention.

In Berlin, hundreds gathered outside the U.S. Embassy to show solidarity with Iranian protesters. Many waved the old Iranian flag and held signs calling for regime change, with some even appealing to U.S. President Donald Trump for support.

The unrest in Iran started over rising prices and economic struggles. But frustration quickly shifted toward the Islamic Republic itself, with crowds demanding political change. Protesters have carried images of the late Shah and his son, Reza Pahlavi, a prominent opposition figure living abroad.

Iranian security forces responded with harsh repression. Reports of arrests, beatings, and live fire have emerged, prompting global condemnation. U.S. President Trump announced he had suspended all talks with Tehran’s leadership, cancelling meetings until the 'senseless killing of protesters stops'. He also voiced public support for the demonstrators.

In Berlin, the protests grew from around 150 people to several hundred outside the U.S. Embassy and Brandenburg Gate. Berlin’s governing mayor, Kai Wegner, declared the city’s backing for the Iranian protesters. He stated that Berlin 'stands firmly with these courageous individuals who are taking to the streets for freedom, self-determination, and human rights, and against the regime'. Many demonstrators held posters of Reza Pahlavi, reinforcing his role as a key figure for those opposing the current government.

The protests in Iran show no signs of slowing, despite the government’s violent response. International leaders, including Trump and Berlin’s mayor, have openly supported the demonstrators. Meanwhile, the economic and political demands of the Iranian people continue to drive the unrest forward.
