Israeli Teens in Dormagen: Strengthening Ties Through Culture and Remembrance

Three Israeli teenagers, part of the Johannes Rau program, have spent a week in Dormagen. They attended lessons at the Bettina-von-Arnim-Gymnasium, stayed with host families, and visited stumbling stones along Cologne Street. The group was received by Mayor Erik Lierenfeld and attended a joint dinner with the Dormagen-Kiryat Ono partnership association. They also participated in a memorial event on Kiryat Ono square to commemorate a terrorist attack anniversary. Now, they prepare for a seminar week in Berlin, visiting historical sites and political institutions.

The Johannes Rau program aims to foster international comprehension among young people. It offers participants the chance to learn about another country's history and society. The three Israeli teenagers, during their stay in Dormagen, attended lessons at the local gymnasium and joined in common activities with their German peers. They also visited several stumbling stones, which serve as a reminder of Jewish life and culture, as well as a symbol of remembrance in Dormagen.

The group's visit concluded with a reception at the town hall by Mayor Erik Lierenfeld. They also attended a joint dinner with the Dormagen-Kiryat Ono partnership association, fostering ties between the two cities. Before leaving Dormagen, the group attended a memorial event on Kiryat Ono square to honour the victims of a terrorist attack.
