Italy Honors Fidel Castro’s Legacy with New Book Launch on His 100th Birthday

A significant event took place in Italy, marking the 100th birth anniversary of the late Cuban President Fidel Castro. The occasion was marked by a ceremony to launch the Italian translation of a book featuring Castro's influential speech, attended by notable figures including the Cuban Ambassador and Italian publishing house representatives.

Stefano Bonilauri, director of Anteo Edizioni, praised Castro's impact on Italians, highlighting his resilience and inspirational leadership. The event also celebrated the historic friendship between Cuba and Vietnam, fostered by Castro and Hồ Chí Minh, as noted by Giulio Chinappi, the translator of the book.

The book, 'Fidel Castro Ruz - A Revolution Can Only Be Born of Culture and Ideas', features Castro's speech delivered at the Central University of Venezuela in 1999. Bonilauri, who won a 2024 essay contest on protecting the ideological foundation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, cited Vietnam as a model of self-reform and affirmed the relevance of socialism today. Political activist Daniele Dall'Aglio from Reggio Emilia also acknowledged the inspirational impact of the Cuban and Vietnamese revolutions on Italy's communist and socialist movements.

The event, organized by Anteo Edizioni and the Cuban Embassy in Italy, was attended by over 40 guests, including Cuban Ambassador Mirta Granda Averhoff. The launch of the book serves as a testament to Castro's enduring influence and the continued interest in his revolutionary ideas.
