Izaak Walton League director steps down after 18 years
Scott Kovarovics has stepped down as executive director of the Izaak Walton League of America after nearly two decades with the organisation. His departure marks the end of a 13-year tenure in the top role. The league, which operates over 200 local chapters nationwide, has now begun its leadership transition.
Kovarovics first joined the Izaak Walton League 18 years ago, eventually taking on the executive director position in 2011. Under his leadership, the organisation expanded its conservation and education efforts across the country. Rachel McBride, chair of the league’s executive board, highlighted his long-term commitment and strategic vision as key to its growth.
Jared Mott, the league’s current conservation director, will serve as interim executive director while a permanent replacement is found. His appointment was confirmed during an event at the organisation’s headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The search for a new leader is now underway.
The league will continue its work under Mott’s temporary leadership. Kovarovics leaves behind a legacy of nearly two decades of service, with his contributions shaping the organisation’s direction. The board has yet to announce a timeline for selecting a new executive director.
