Jackson still among worst cities for singles: report

Jackson, Mississippi, has been ranked the 10th worst city in the U.S. for singles in 2026. The latest WalletHub report highlights ongoing challenges for those looking to date in the area. Many key factors, from gender balance to social opportunities, have either stagnated or declined over the past year.

The study placed Jackson near the bottom of 182 major cities, largely due to its poor gender balance within the dating pool. This imbalance makes it the worst among all cities assessed. While the city holds the 17th highest share of single people nationwide, the overall dating experience remains difficult.

Online and mobile dating options in Jackson also scored poorly. These opportunities have not improved in the last year, leaving locals with limited digital alternatives. Nearby Gulfport performed slightly better but still ranked low compared to other major cities. By contrast, cities like Virginia Beach, Portland, and Austin offer far better prospects for singles. These locations boast welcoming atmospheres, lively social scenes, and strong job markets. Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle also outperform Jackson, thanks to their vibrant nightlife, cultural events, and higher livability rankings. Other cities, including Dallas, Savannah, Tampa, and Richmond, provide safer environments and more opportunities for socialising.

Jackson’s ranking reflects a mix of weak digital dating options, an unbalanced gender ratio, and few improvements in recent years. Meanwhile, cities with stronger economies, safer streets, and active social lives continue to attract singles looking for better dating opportunities. The gap between Jackson and higher-ranked cities remains wide in 2026.
