Japan Honours Sheikh Nasser Al-Sabah With Highest Award for Strengthening Ties
Japan has honoured His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. The award recognises his exceptional contributions to strengthening and promoting friendly relations between Japan and Kuwait.
Throughout his career, Sheikh Nasser has held several key positions, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Chief of the Amiri Diwan, and Prime Minister. In each role, he has made remarkable strides in enhancing, deepening, and expanding Japan-Kuwait relations.
As Prime Minister, he focused on expanding cooperation in economic and commercial fields, moving beyond the traditional oil sector. Notably, during a 1990 visit to Japan as the representative of the Amir of Kuwait, he facilitated Japan's provision of approximately $13.5 billion in assistance and the historic dispatch of the Self-Defense Forces overseas.
Despite leaving official posts, Sheikh Nasser has continued to engage with the Imperial Family, maintaining a relationship of trust that has benefited Japan-Kuwait relations. The Government of Japan's conferment of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun is a testament to his outstanding service and dedication to bilateral ties. However, his current health status and last active official position remain unconfirmed.
