SORA Technology Expands Malaria Control Operations Across Africa

SORA Technology, a Japanese drone-based solutions provider, is set to revolutionize malaria control in Africa. The company, which specializes in AI-powered drone operations, is expanding its presence from 6 to 15 African countries, starting August 25, 2025.

The expansion includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, and other countries. SORA's approach uses fixed-wing drones equipped with AI-guided imaging to precisely identify mosquito larval habitats and spray larvicides. This targeted Larval Source Management (LSM) reduces chemical use by up to 70% and cuts operational costs by approximately 50%, compared to traditional broad-area spraying methods.

Africa faces over 90% of global malaria cases and deaths, with malaria costing the continent an estimated $12 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare expenses. SORA’s AI-powered drone solution offers a more efficient, environmentally responsible, and community-integrated alternative to conventional malaria spraying campaigns, which is increasingly urgent due to climate change and rising insecticide resistance.

SORA Technology is positioning itself as a key player in the African drone spraying market, currently valued at around $100 million. The company plans to sell a malaria-focused drone starting in August. Each country will receive about 100 drones from SORA.
