Jatiya Party Faction Warns of Election Unfairness, Calls for Parliament's Role in Constitutional Amendments

Anisul Islam Mahmud, faction chairman of the Jatiya Party, has expressed concerns about the fairness of upcoming elections and the potential consequences of constitutional amendments. He stated that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and other advisors promised a free, fair, and credible election in the first half of February next year.

Mahmud raised alarm about the administration's key posts being controlled by pro BNP and pro Jamaat officials, which he believes could cause confusion about the election's fairness. He warned that changing the constitution could lead to trials for those responsible if an election day uprising occurs after 10 years.

The faction's secretary general, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, criticized the interim government's failure to control the country's law and order situation. The faction suggested that constitutional amendments should be done by an elected parliament, urging the interim government to refrain from such actions.

The Jatiya Party faction's statements highlight their concerns about the election process and the potential risks of constitutional amendments by the interim government. They emphasize the importance of an elected parliament in making such decisions.
