Jersey City Mayoral Race Too Close to Call, Runoff Likely in December
Jersey City's mayoral race remains tight, with no clear winner yet. Mussab Ali leads with 12%, followed by Joyce Watterman at 3%. A significant 21% of voters are still undecided. Unless one candidate secures 50%, a runoff will be held in New York on December 2.
The race has seen several prominent candidates. Steve Fulop, the incumbent, is stepping down after three terms and moving to New York. He previously sought the Democratic nomination for governor in the June primary. The field includes Mussab Ali, a former school board president, and Joyce Watterman, the current city council president.
An internal poll shows a close race. Former governor James J. McGreevey leads with 23%. Bill O'Dea, a longtime Hudson County Commissioner and former city councilman, and James Solomon, a two-term city councilman, each have 20%. The results do not indicate which candidates plan to participate in the potential runoff.
With no clear winner and a significant undecided vote, Jersey City's mayoral race is poised for an exciting finish. Voters will decide the city's future, with a runoff election possible in New York on December 2.
