Jersey names Paul Dossett as new Comptroller and Auditor General for 2027

Jersey has appointed Paul Dossett as its next Comptroller and Auditor General. He will take over the role on 1 January 2027, following Lynn Pamment's seven-year term. The States Assembly confirmed his appointment with two unanimous votes.

The States Assembly recently updated the Comptroller and Auditor General (Jersey) Law 2014. These changes strengthen the independence of the island's public audit system. They also give more responsibility to the Jersey Audit Office's Board of Governance and require an annual report on progress and recommendations.

Paul Dossett currently leads public sector assurance at Grant Thornton in London and the South East. With nearly 40 years of experience in public sector auditing, he brings extensive expertise to the position. He expressed his enthusiasm for the role, highlighting its importance in ensuring transparency and accountability.

Michael Whitehouse OBE, chair of the Governance Board, welcomed both the appointment and the legislative updates. Jersey's public audit system follows international accounting standards, including those from the UK, US, and EU, ensuring high-quality financial oversight.

Dossett's appointment comes as part of wider reforms to Jersey's audit framework. The updated law and his experience aim to reinforce public trust in financial oversight. His term will begin after Lynn Pamment CBE completes her service at the end of 2026.
