Jersey police probe assault near Islamic Centre as community rallies together
Two men were allegedly assaulted near the Islamic Centre on Aquila Road in Jersey on Friday afternoon. The incident, which took place at around 2pm on 6 March, has prompted a swift response from local authorities and community leaders.
A 51-year-old man was arrested shortly after the attack on suspicion of common assault and disorderly conduct. Police confirmed no serious injuries were reported from the confrontation.
The Police Community Safety Team has since engaged with members of the Muslim community linked to the centre. Their support follows condemnation from Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham, who described the assault as unacceptable and reaffirmed solidarity with those affected.
Authorities are now urging anyone with information to come forward. The government has also pledged to work closely with police and community leaders to maintain safety across the island.
The arrested suspect remains under investigation as police gather further evidence. Meanwhile, local officials continue to monitor the situation to prevent further incidents. Community support services are available for those impacted by the assault.
