Jetoptera and Eanan's J500 VTOL Cargo UAS conduct turbocompressor mapping tests during campaign
In a significant collaboration, Jetoptera and EANAN are making strides in the development of the J-500, a 500-pound class VTOL-capable cargo drone. The latest progress includes the successful start of the turbocompressor mapping campaign, a crucial phase to validate the operability of Jetoptera's proprietary Fluidic Propulsive System™ (FPS™).
This innovative propulsion system, at the heart of the J-500, is designed to reduce noise significantly, enhance safety, and offer unmatched versatility. The modular and scalable architecture of the FPS™, powered by a 250 kW turbocompressor, provides a quieter, safer, and highly adaptable propulsion solution tailored for VTOL cargo drone missions.
The turbocompressor, a two-stage axial compressor driven by a free turbine, is currently being tested extensively at EANAN’s facilities in the UAE to ensure safe operation throughout all flight phases, including takeoff, cruise, loitering, and vertical landing. The ongoing turbocompressor mapping campaign is critical to characterize the efficiencies and operability of the FPS™, with initial test results demonstrating that the compressor design meets performance targets, supporting the plan to deliver the propulsion system on schedule.
The J-500 leverages a pneumatic system to distribute compressed air through dynamically actuated valves to the FPSTM thrusters, enabling precise control of the aircraft's attitude and maneuvering. The gas generator, FTC, and FPSTM subsystems can operate in different configurations for V/STOL and low noise mission stages, as turbofan, and for highest-speed mission stages.
The collaboration between Jetoptera and EANAN is noteworthy, as it allows for the joint development of a revolutionary propulsion-integrated airframe that leverages Jetoptera's unique FPSTM technology, while benefiting from EANAN's testing infrastructure in the UAE.
