João Soares Praises PS Performance Despite PSD Election Win
João Soares, a prominent Socialist Party (PS) figure and former Lisbon mayor, has acknowledged the Social Democratic Party (PSD) as the winner of the election night. Despite this, Soares has a positive outlook on the PS's performance and has praised party leader José Luís Carneiro.
Soares believes the PS's result is not bad, given expectations, and praises Carneiro's leadership in the last few weeks. He sees Carneiro as the big winner in the electoral process. Soares also thinks the proposed State Budget is already at its limits.
Soares has defended Loures' mayor Ricardo Leão, stating he is a socialist despite past criticisms. He acknowledges there were 'two or three incidents' within the PS recently but refutes the idea that the party is divided, including over the presidential candidacy issue. Soares shares his opinion on the possible support of the PS for António José Seguro in the presidential elections, but there is no information available about who supported Seguro or why Soares might not have explained it.
João Soares has acknowledged the PSD's victory but maintains a positive outlook on the PS's result. He praises José Luís Carneiro's leadership and believes the party has achieved an interesting result. Despite recent incidents, Soares refutes the narrative of a divided PS and denies the idea that the party is 'turning to the right or left', recalling its past alignment with the Left Bloc.
