Johor Bahru Leads in BAS.MY Users; Free Bus Service Benefits 50,000
Johor Bahru tops the list of cities with the most BAS.MY users, with 16,832 residents signed up. Kuching follows with 10,215 users, while Ipoh, Seremban, and Melaka have 7,304, 6,310, and 4,668 users respectively. The free bus service, launched in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, has benefited nearly 50,000 people since October 2025.
BAS.MY, a Ministry of Transport initiative, operates in ten cities including Kangar, Kota Setar, Ipoh, Seremban, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, and Kuching. It is set to expand to Kota Kinabalu soon. The service caters predominantly to senior citizens, making up 78% of its users, followed by students (13%), persons with disabilities (6%), and university students (3%).
The free bus service has seen significant uptake, with 49,611 people benefiting since its launch. The Ministry of Transport is exploring public-private partnerships to maintain bus stops and create advertising opportunities. This move aims to strengthen public-private collaborations, potentially expanding bus stop facilities nationwide.
BAS.MY's popularity is evident in Johor Bahru and other cities, with senior citizens being the primary users. The service's success has led to plans for expansion and improved infrastructure through public-private partnerships.
