Johor’s bold 2030 plan: Developed districts through infrastructure and growth
Johor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, has set an ambitious target for the state: developed status in all districts by 2030. His vision extends beyond economic growth, aiming for advanced infrastructure, sustainability, and a better quality of life for residents. He sees the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) as just the beginning of this transformation.
Onn Hafiz, who is also Machap MP, stressed that the JS-SEZ should serve as a launchpad rather than the final achievement. He warned that unresolved problems—such as persistent traffic congestion, shortages of medical staff, and stalled development projects—could slow economic progress if not addressed soon.
The plan hinges on both federal support and local determination. If successful, Johor could see upgraded infrastructure, a stronger economy, and improved living standards across all districts. The next few years will test whether the state can overcome its current challenges and reach its goals.
