Join Lorenz Hemicker for a Chilling Reading of 'My Grandfather, the Perpetrator'
Join journalist Lorenz Hemicker at the Museum Quarter Osnabrück on October 16 for a reading from his poignant book, 'My Grandfather, the Perpetrator'. Hemicker, born in Gummersbach and raised in the Sauerland, will delve into his grandfather's dark past as an SS officer during the Holocaust. Tickets are 9 euros, with reduced tickets at 7 euros.
Hemicker, who currently serves as the editor-in-chief of FAZ.NET, has spent years unravelling his grandfather's role in the atrocities. After graduating with degrees in architecture, communication science, political science, and economics from Aachen, he began his journalistic career in 2008 as the editor-in-chief of 'Loyal', a security policy magazine. In 2017, he started writing for the politics department of the 'Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung'.
His book focuses on SS officer Ernst Hemicker, who constructed pits in the Rumbula forest where over 27,000 Jewish men, women, and children were murdered and buried. Despite his role in these heinous crimes, Ernst Hemicker was never convicted.
Lorenz Hemicker's journey of discovery and his decision to share his findings in 'My Grandfather, the Perpetrator' serve as a stark reminder of the importance of confronting and understanding the past. The event at the Museum Quarter Osnabrück promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of one family's connection to the Holocaust and the enduring impact of its legacy.
