The 25 Young Leaders of 2025
Justus Schirmacher, 33, Managing Director, Platow Verlag
Alongside his brother Jörg (37), he has taken over the second-generation leadership and majority ownership of Platow Verlag. In a short time, they have transformed its long-standing financial media brands (Platow Brief, Platow Börse), phasing out print editions, significantly expanding digital reach, growing their events portfolio, and forging new partnerships. Schirmacher studied history at Cambridge before spending a decade in finance (Goldman Sachs, Berenberg) with "many ups and downs." Reflecting on the transition, he says: "The first year at Platow was, by far, the most valuable of my career."
Career advice: "Never cut corners on content quality. That means investing in your own skills and those of your team. Unlike other industries, media has no future in generic content—it's either worth reading or worthless."
Goals: "For 80 years, Platow has been a leading briefing for the financial sector. If we can maintain that standing for the next generation, my brother and I will have achieved a great deal. That said, the industry is evolving rapidly, and we still have ambitious changes ahead."
