Kandel Access Road to Close Again for Major Renovation in Spring 2026
The access road to the Kandel from St. Peter is set for a major renovation. The work, planned by the Regierungspräsidium Freiburg, will begin in spring 2026 and require a three-month road closure.
The road, which has been closed since October 2024, is currently undergoing construction. This involves repairing three support walls and implementing extensive rockfall prevention measures. Around 150 tons of rock and stones have been removed during the process. The road is expected to reopen to traffic on October 1, 2025. As part of the work, 1,400 meters of rockfall protection fencing has been installed.
The Kandelstraße in Waldkirch will reopen in October 2025, following the completion of construction work that began in 2024. The road will then be ready for the planned renovation in spring 2026, which will see the road surface renewed and the access path to the Kandel from St. Peter improved.
