Kanew Receives Crucial Aid: Fire Engines Arrive, Window Protection Urged
Kanew, a city devastated by recent conflicts, has received crucial aid from various sources. Fire engines and other essential supplies have been sent to help the struggling community. Halyna Moskalenko, a local representative, recently met with Mayor Sabine Anemüller and volunteers to discuss the most pressing needs.
The city of Kanew and the association Friends of Kanew, along with a private donor, have jointly funded two fire engines to help combat the ongoing crisis. These vehicles, along with a Sprinter van funded by federal funds, were sent to Kanew in July 2025.
Halyna Moskalenko, during her meeting with Mayor Anemüller and volunteers, highlighted the urgent need for thick, transparent foils to replace shattered window panes. This would provide protection and allow daylight to enter affected apartments, a stark contrast to the use of plywood. Regular exchange and targeted aid from Viersen have been crucial in ensuring these supplies reach Kanew. Power outages, a persistent issue, disable vital medical equipment and shut down water supply and sewage systems, further exacerbating the situation.
The aid sent to Kanew, including fire engines and other essential supplies, has been made possible through the collective efforts of the city, the association Friends of Kanew, a private donor, and federal funds. The association's website continues to inform about monetary and material donation possibilities, ensuring that aid remains targeted and timely.
