Karaganda police officers fired after losing service weapon in botched investigation
Three police officers in Karaganda have been dismissed following a serious incident involving a missing service weapon. The decision, made on March 10, 2025, has been upheld by the supreme court and is now legally binding.
The incident occurred during an investigation involving a minor girl and her mother. A combat pistol went missing before proper procedural steps were completed. The officers— a criminal investigator, a forensic specialist, and an operational officer—were found to have committed serious violations by failing to perform their duties properly. The supreme court ruled that their actions were gross violations of service discipline, leading to their dismissals.
The officers challenged the decision in court but the ruling was upheld. The court found no relevant search results providing information about the decision-maker for this dismissal. This is not the first such incident in the region. Earlier, a precinct inspector was dismissed on negative grounds after being found unconscious at a police station alongside the body of a young woman.
The dismissal of the three police officers in Karaganda has now entered into legal force. Their failure to properly handle a service weapon during an investigation has been deemed a serious breach of discipline. The supreme court's decision serves as a reminder of the importance of proper procedure and duty of care in such sensitive cases.
