Karnataka Minister Cracks Down on Officers Attending RSS Events
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has taken stern action against government officers who attended RSS events. He has issued show-cause notices and plans to suspend them in the coming days. Kharge has also written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to prohibit such participation and take disciplinary action against violators.
Kharge's move comes after several PDOs, village accountants, and other state officers attended RSS functions and spoke against the government. The minister raised concerns about the RSS conducting shakhas in government schools and public spaces, fearing that their ideologies may instill negative ideas in children and youth. He cited the Karnataka Civil Service rule that bars officers from participating in politically aligned events. Although no names have been made public yet, the officers who attended these events within Kharge's own department are expected to face consequences.
Priyank Kharge's decision sends a clear message that government officers must maintain political neutrality. The suspension of officers who attended RSS events is expected to serve as a deterrent for future such incidents. The Chief Minister's response to Kharge's request will be closely watched.
