Karnataka’s leadership tussle heats up as DK Shivakumar flies to Delhi
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar travelled to Delhi on Wednesday, sparking fresh speculation about the state’s Chief Ministerial post. The visit comes amid ongoing political discussions within the Congress party, with supporters openly backing rival factions at Mangaluru Airport just before his departure.
Shivakumar arrived in Delhi on December 14, 2021, for what he described as a private marriage function. He also mentioned attending a few small meetings before returning for a scheduled cabinet session in Karnataka. However, political observers suspect the trip may include talks with senior Congress figures, including Rahul Gandhi, as similar airport meetings have taken place in the past.
The Delhi visit has reignited discussions about Karnataka’s leadership, with both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah maintaining their positions. While Shivakumar’s trip was framed as personal, the political undertones remain evident. The Congress party has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
