KATH's new CEO courts media, seeks support to revive stalled projects
The CEO of Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has called on local media to help push for the completion of stalled projects at the facility. Paa Kwesi Baido urged journalists in the Ashanti Region to highlight these developments, particularly a long-awaited 500-bed maternity block.
During an interview, Baido stressed the importance of media coverage in securing support for the hospital’s unfinished infrastructure. He believes increased visibility will encourage civil society groups, NGOs, investors, and the government to step in.
The maternity block, once operational, is expected to ease pressure on the hospital’s current services. Baido confirmed that the project is already listed in the government’s 2026 budget but requires further backing to finish on time. Dr. Samuel Oppong, another hospital official, echoed these concerns. He asked reporters to focus on the delays, noting that public awareness could speed up progress. Baido also assured journalists that KATH’s management remains open to partnerships to improve healthcare delivery.
The appeal comes as KATH seeks to address overcrowding and service gaps. The maternity block, if completed, will expand capacity by 500 beds. Hospital leaders now rely on media support to turn the project into reality.
