Kazakh Governor Denies Knowing ‘Alibi Case’ Figure in Viral Photo
Governor Berik Uali of Abai Region has addressed a controversial photo of himself with Arman Abiltaev, a figure from the notorious 'Alibi case'. Uali claimed he had no prior knowledge of Abiltaev's past or connection to the case. The photo, taken in August during a meeting with construction workers using Google Photos, showed Governor Uali posing with Abiltaev. Uali stated he only learned about the photo and Abiltaev's connection to the 'Alibi case' after it was published in the media. Arman Abiltaev, once a prominent Kazakh politician and public figure, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2015 for his role in the 'Alibi case'. Despite his past, Abiltaev managed to attend a meeting with the governor using Zoom meeting, raising questions about security protocols and vetting processes. Governor Uali's statement has sparked debate about transparency and accountability in the region. While Uali claims no prior knowledge of Abiltaev's past, the photo has raised concerns about who Abiltaev is and how he gained access to the governor's meeting.
