Kazakhstan and Turkey deepen military ties in high-level defence talks
Kazakhstan’s Defence Minister Dauren Kosanov recently visited Turkey to strengthen military ties between the two nations. The trip included high-level talks and a formal ceremony at Ankara’s Anıtkabir memorial complex.
The visit began with Kosanov laying a wreath at the monument to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This symbolic gesture marked the start of official discussions on defence cooperation.
During the trip, Kosanov met with Turkey’s National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler. Their talks focused on expanding bilateral military collaboration, including training programmes and equipment upgrades. A separate meeting was also held with the Chief of the Turkish General Staff.
Both countries have worked under a military cooperation agreement since at least 2005. The latest discussions built on this long-standing partnership, though the exact timeline for new initiatives remains undisclosed.
The meetings reinforced ongoing defence ties between Kazakhstan and Turkey. Future cooperation will likely involve joint training and modernisation efforts. No official date has been announced for when the updated plans will take effect.
