Kazakhstan Appoints Magzhan Ilyasov as New Ambassador to the USA
Magzhan Ilyasov, a seasoned diplomat, has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the USA today. This follows the recent relief of Ambassador Erjan Ashikbayev from his duties. Ilyasov brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in various high-level diplomatic positions in the American continent and beyond.
Ilyasov was born on August 26, 1974, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He began his diplomatic career in 1996 as a referent at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His career has since seen him rise through the ranks, serving in various capacities.
From 2016 to 2020, he served as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Netherlands and the Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Following this, he served as the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations from 2020 to 2022. Most recently, he has been serving as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the UK since October 6, 2022, and to Iceland and Ireland since April 18, 2023.
Ilyasov's educational background includes a degree from the Kazakh State University of World Languages and a master's from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. His appointment as the Ambassador to the USA comes after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev relieved Ambassador Erjan Ashikbayev of his duties.
