Kazakhstan & Azerbaijan Strengthen Ties: Presidents Meet, Plan Trade Boost and Energy Cooperation
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, hosted Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, for a state visit to Astana. The visit saw high-level bilateral talks and a session of the Supreme Interstate Council between the two nations.
Tokayev praised Aliyev as an outstanding statesman, acknowledging his contributions to Azerbaijan's independence and territorial integrity. Aliyev reciprocated the warmth, expressing gratitude for the invitation and highlighting the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, marked by frequent mutual visits and tangible results.
The leaders held a press briefing following their talks, discussing pressing regional and global issues. They confirmed their identical positions on key matters of international policy. The energy sector was a key focus, with plans to increase Kazakh oil transit via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan route and explore a deep-sea power cable project. They also agreed to double bilateral trade to one billion dollars, emphasizing expansion in areas such as agriculture, energy, manufacturing, construction, and digitalization.
Aliyev noted his frequent meetings with Tokayev, having met more than ten times in the past three years.
The state visit of Ilham Aliyev to Kazakhstan has further strengthened the bilateral relations between the two countries. With plans to boost trade, increase cooperation in various sectors, and enhance strategic partnerships, both leaders look forward to a prosperous future for their nations.
