Kazakhstan evacuates 9,000 citizens from Middle East conflict zones
Kazakhstan has successfully evacuated nearly 9,000 of its citizens from conflict zones in the Middle East. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the operation as a major test for the country, requiring swift coordination across borders and government agencies.
The evacuation began after orders were issued to secure vital infrastructure and place armed forces on high alert. A special task force at the Foreign Ministry was set up to oversee the operation. Citizens were moved overland through Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan, with Kazakh embassies assisting along each route.
Tokayev took a direct role in the effort, sending personal messages to regional leaders and holding phone calls with heads of state in the Middle East. His involvement helped clear logistical hurdles and secure safe passage for evacuees. After the operation, he publicly thanked Middle Eastern leaders and all personnel involved in the mission. The crisis reinforced Kazakhstan's long-standing principle of never abandoning its citizens abroad. This commitment has now been formally included in the draft of the country's new Constitution. The government also reaffirmed its policy of providing support to citizens during emergencies, whether at home or overseas.
The operation boosted Kazakhstan's international reputation and demonstrated its ability to act decisively in a crisis. Nearly 9,000 people were safely returned, while the mission underscored the country's dedication to protecting its citizens wherever they may be.
