Kazakhstan Seeks Nigerian's Extradition in Drug Trafficking Case
Kazakhstan has initiated extradition proceedings for Nigerian national Adindu Nonso Fortune, suspected of drug trafficking. The process is underway despite the absence of an extradition treaty between the two countries.
Interpol has pinpointed Fortune's location in Lagos, Nigeria. Following this, Kazakhstan has formally requested his extradition. Fortune is believed to have ties to a previous high-profile case involving a Kazakh woman, Akzharqyn Turlubayeva, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in China for drug smuggling in 2015. Almaty police are currently investigating a criminal case against Fortune for his alleged involvement in the same drug trafficking network.
The extradition process is complicated by the lack of a bilateral extradition treaty. Without such an agreement, there are no fixed timelines for the extradition request. However, Kazakhstan is pursuing the matter through international cooperation channels.
Adindu Nonso Fortune's extradition to Kazakhstan is pending, with no definitive timeline due to the absence of an extradition treaty. Kazakh authorities continue to press for his return to face drug trafficking charges.
