Kazakhstan Sees Record Domestic and International Migration Surge in 2025
Kazakhstan has witnessed a significant surge in domestic relocation, with a 22.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This trend is accompanied by a notable rise in international migration, with key origins including Turkey, Germany, the USA, France, and South Korea.
The largest groups of non-CIS arrivals were citizens of China, Mongolia, and Turkey. Meanwhile, arrivals from CIS countries accounted for a substantial 82.7% of the total, with departures to these countries making up 73.2%. The net migration figure stands at 10,200 people, indicating a clear influx.
Four regions experienced positive net migration from interregional movement: Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and Almaty Region. Over the first nine months, a total of 16,100 people moved to Kazakhstan for permanent residence. Most newcomers chose to settle in Almaty Region, followed by Almaty city, Mangystau Region, and Astana.
These figures reflect a growing trend of migration into Kazakhstan, with both domestic and international movements contributing to population shifts. The country's largest cities and regions are seeing the most significant influx, indicating potential economic and social impacts.
