Kazakhstan seizes €200 from traveller in airport currency crackdown
A foreign traveller has been penalised for trying to take €200. The man was detained at Astana's airport after officials discovered the hidden funds. The cash, equivalent to 119 million tenge, was confiscated and later forfeited to the state by a court ruling. The ruling reinforces Kazakhstan's strict controls on currency movement. Travellers carrying large sums must declare them or risk confiscation and fines. Authorities continue to monitor compliance closely at border points.
