Kazakhstan shines at ITB Berlin 2023 with vibrant tourism revival
ITB Berlin, the world's leading travel trade show, returned in person from March 7 to 9, 2023, after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event drew 90,127 trade visitors from over 180 countries and 5,500 exhibitors from 161 nations, including a large pavilion from Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan participated with a prominent pavilion, featuring 30 travel agencies and hotels from Astana, Almaty, and Mangystau. The pavilion showcased Kazakh hospitality, with the Auyl restaurant serving traditional Kazakh tea with baursaks and Rakhat chocolates. Despite challenges from pandemic restrictions and Russia's war in Ukraine, which led to longer flight times and higher cheap flights, the industry remained resilient. The ITB Berlin Congress, attended by 400 global experts and 24,000 participants, discussed industry trends and challenges under the theme 'Mastering Transformation'. Adventure tourism was represented by Kan Tengri Expeditions, offering mountaineering, fishing, mountain biking, and jeep tours. Meanwhile, cultural and entertainment tours were offered by Sky Way and Dostar Trips, a newcomer specializing in personalized Almaty tours.
The event also featured business and event travel services provided by Akzhol Travel and Complete Service. Georgia was the official partner country, showcasing its tourism offerings under the slogan 'Endless Hospitality'.
ITB Berlin 2023 provided a platform for Kazakhstan and other nations to showcase their tourism offerings and discuss industry challenges. Despite setbacks, the industry remains vibrant and eager to adapt and grow.
