Kazakhstan strengthens CIS ties with landmark visit to Tajikistan’s IPA summit

Kazakhstan's Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev led a delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The visit underscored Kazakhstan's commitment to regional cooperation and dialogue.

Ashimbayev met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and other heads of parliamentary chambers, discussing a range of issues. During his visit, Ashimbayev held bilateral meetings with Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko, Tajik Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli Chairman Rustam Emomali, and Belarus Council of the Republic Chairperson Natalia Kochanova. They discussed trade, economic, investment, and cultural issues, outlining steps to strengthen interparliamentary relations.

A model law on combating domestic violence, initiated by Kazakhstan, was approved during the assembly, demonstrating the CIS IPA's effectiveness as a platform for legislative initiatives. Ashimbayev also briefed other CIS parliamentarians on Kazakhstan's upcoming parliamentary reform, which includes a transition to a unicameral legislature through a nationwide referendum in 2027.

Ashimbayev's visit to the CIS IPA conference in Dushanbe reinforced Kazakhstan's role in promoting regional cooperation and dialogue. The approval of the model law on combating domestic violence and discussions on various issues highlight the importance of the CIS IPA as a platform for legislative initiatives and building trust among member states.
