Kazakhstan’s bold push into global agriculture at Berlin’s Green Week 2024

Kazakhstan made a significant presence at Green Week 2024, showcasing a variety of products from meat and dairy to traditional Kazakh delicacies. This event, held in Germany, a key partner for Kazakhstan in agricultural trade, saw bilateral trade in agricultural products reach $113.7 million in the first eleven months of 2023, an 18.3% increase from the previous year.

More than 30 Kazakh firms participated in Green Week, exhibiting their products to a global audience. The event, founded in 1926, serves as a platform for discussing societal issues such as climate protection and food security. Meanwhile, a Kazakh delegation led by Deputy Agriculture Minister Yerbol Tasszhurekov visited Berlin to attend the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture and the opening ceremony of Green Week.

The delegation explored cutting-edge technologies and innovations at the fair, aiming to foster business ties with agribusiness companies worldwide. Notably, a project called 'GreenTech Kazakhstan', initiated by German investors, has successfully launched the assembly of agricultural machinery from CLAAS and HORSCH in Kazakhstan. This project is expected to strengthen the bilateral relationship further.

In 2023, Kazakhstan exported $26.2 million worth of agricultural goods to Germany, primarily fish fillets and other fish products, while importing $24 million worth of chocolate and other cocoa-based products. The participation in Green Week 2024 and the successful launch of 'GreenTech Kazakhstan' project demonstrate Kazakhstan's commitment to expanding its agricultural trade with Germany and learning from global best practices.
