Kazakhstan's envoy seeks stronger economic ties with Russia's Komi Republic
Dmitry Mikhno, Kazakhstan's Consul General in St. Petersburg, has begun an official visit to the Republic of Komi. The trip marks a renewed effort to strengthen ties between the Russian region and the economic powerhouse of Kazakhstan. Over the coming days, discussions will focus on economic cooperation and cultural exchanges.
The visit started with a solemn ceremony at Syktyvkar's Eternal Flame memorial, where Mikhno laid flowers. He is accompanied by Kazakh officials Aliya Naumenko and Sergei Yemelyanov.
On March 4, the delegation will tour local industrial sites and visit the National Gallery of Komi. The next day, they will travel to Ukhta for further meetings. Alexei Prosuzhikh, a regional representative, has expressed readiness to expand trade, offering products from Komi's leading manufacturers.
No major economic agreements have been signed between Komi and Kazakhstan in the past five years. This visit aims to change that by exploring new partnerships and reinforcing existing contacts.
The delegation's agenda includes talks on economic growth and potential joint projects. If successful, the visit could lead to concrete collaborations between Komi and Kazakhstan. Both sides have signalled a willingness to move beyond past inactivity.
