Kazakhstan's military votes in historic 2026 constitutional referendum

Kazakhstan's military personnel took part in a republican referendum held in March 2026. Special arrangements were made to ensure troops in remote locations could vote, including the setup of five dedicated polling stations across various bases.

Soldiers from the mountain rifle regiment in Zhualy District were among the earliest to cast their ballots. A polling station was established directly on their base, with Major Kydyrali Ashirbayev overseeing the process. Private Alzhar Abai became the first in his regiment to vote.

Over 600 conscripts from the Taraz Garrison participated in the referendum at Military Unit 5513 in the regional capital. Meanwhile, more than 4,500 personnel from the Southern Military Command also took part. The highest turnout was recorded at a special polling station in the Guards Garrison, Korday District. Before voting, troops attended briefings and collective reading sessions to learn about the draft new Constitution. Deputy commanders responsible for moral and ideological work chaired the election commissions at all five special polling stations.

The referendum saw active participation from military units across Kazakhstan. While exact figures on total votes and military turnout rates remain unverified without official data, the efforts to include remote troops were clearly organised. Conscripts from Regional Command 'South' and other units had the opportunity to contribute to the process.
