Kazakhstan's Police Fleet Gets a Luxury Upgrade with Tesla Model X
Kazakhstan has been rapidly upgrading its police fleet with high-end off-road vehicles over the past five years. Deputy Interior Minister Sanzhar Adilov recently highlighted the importance of mobility for law enforcement. The latest purchase—a trio of premium SUVs, notably Tesla Model X, has drawn attention due to its cost and specifications.
Between 2021 and 2026, Kazakhstan acquired more than 1,000 advanced off-road vehicles, including Toyota Land Cruisers and Mitsubishi Pajeros, through government tenders. This push far outpaces regional neighbours: Uzbekistan added around 500 similar units, Kyrgyzstan roughly 300 under donor-funded schemes, and Tajikistan about 200 within budget constraints. Turkmenistan, meanwhile, has shared little public data, suggesting fewer upgrades due to secrecy.
The latest procurement involves three premium-class off-road vehicles, reportedly Chevrolet Tahoes, at a combined cost of nearly 60 million tenge. Adilov stressed that logistical and technical support remains a priority for police operations. He also confirmed plans to review the specifics of this purchase and release further details.
The ongoing fleet upgrades reflect Kazakhstan's commitment to modernising its law enforcement capabilities. With over 1,000 high-end vehicles added in recent years, the country's police now operate one of the most advanced fleets in Central Asia. Adilov's verification of the latest procurement will provide additional clarity on its scope and purpose.
