Kazakhstan’s Speaker Slams Government Over Unanswered Public Petitions
Erlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Mazhilis and leader of the Amanat party, has raised concerns over the government’s handling of public petitions. During a session focused on regional feedback, he criticised officials for providing vague responses instead of clear solutions. The meeting also reviewed progress on long-standing issues brought forward by local governors and residents.
Koshanov began by highlighting the lack of substantive answers to problems raised during autumn visits. He had previously forwarded these concerns to the Prime Minister but noted that many remained unresolved. According to him, government replies often consisted of generalised remarks rather than concrete actions.
The session concluded with a commitment to hold a follow-up zoom meeting in 2026. Deputies will continue scrutinising the government’s actions on public petitions and regional feedback. Koshanov’s remarks underscored the need for transparent, actionable responses rather than evasive statements.
