Kazakhstan’s Tokayev meets Putin in Moscow amid diplomatic reshuffles
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in Moscow for a state visit on November 11-12. His arrival was marked by an honor guard and military brass band at Vnukovo-2 Airport, greeted by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Tokayev's plane was escorted by Russian Defense Ministry Su-35 fighter jets upon entering Russian airspace.
During his visit, Tokayev will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and address the 21st Forum on Interregional Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia via video conference. Several important bilateral documents are expected to be signed.
In other news, Zulfiya Suleimenova, currently the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, has been appointed as ambassador-at-large for Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, Madayar Menilbekov and Zhan Galiev have been appointed as concurrent ambassadors to Bahrain and the Republic of the Congo, respectively.
In legal news, Hasan Kasymbayev, alleged leader of the 'Khutorskaya' organized crime group, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for kidnapping, intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, and extortion. Kasymbayev's defense attorneys plan to appeal the verdict, citing his absence from the crime scene and missing case materials.
Tokayev's visit to Moscow is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Russia. The appointment of new ambassadors and the sentencing of Kasymbayev reflect ongoing diplomatic and legal developments in Kazakhstan.
