Kazakhstan’s Traditional Yurt Earns New UNESCO Cultural Heritage Status
Kazakhstan has secured a new UNESCO recognition for its traditional yurt, reinforcing its place in global cultural heritage. The latest honour comes as the country climbs the ranks of UNESCO’s World Heritage listings, now standing among the top 25 countries worldwide.
The yurt’s status was officially strengthened during a recent UNESCO session held in India. This addition marks Kazakhstan’s 14th entry on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The latest UNESCO decision solidifies the yurt’s global significance. Kazakhstan’s 14 recognised elements place it firmly within the top tier of countries preserving intangible cultural heritage. The move also underscores the country’s commitment to safeguarding its traditions on the global stage.
