Kempten Adapts Housing for Ukrainian Refugees
Kempten is adapting its housing arrangements for refugees following the influx due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Nicole Urban, the city's Integration Office head, has briefed the Social Affairs Committee on the ongoing changes.
Initially, Kempten repurposed apartments to provide temporary shelters for refugees. However, the demand for housing remains high. In response, the city is gradually phasing out decentralized accommodations, opting for more centralized solutions.
The first watch of this shift is the opening of a new shared shelter on Kotterner Straße. This community home is specifically designed to house refugees from Ukraine, with the first residents being Ukrainian refugees themselves.
The city of Kempten continues to address the housing needs of displaced people, with the Kotterner Straße shelter being the latest addition. As decentralized accommodations are phased out, the city aims to provide more efficient and suitable housing for refugees.
