Kenya Opens Jeddah Consulate to Strengthen Gulf Ties and Diaspora Support
Kenya has opened a new Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a strategic move to strengthen ties with the Gulf region. It also aims to organize Kenyan diaspora into productive networks, contributing to Kenya's development agenda. Beyond diplomatic expansion, Kenya's relationship with Saudi Arabia is evolving. The two nations are now exploring partnerships in investment, higher education, renewable energy, and skills exchange. Kenya is shifting its labour partnership model towards a 'professionals' approach, focusing on skilled and semi-skilled talent. To facilitate this, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is collaborating with other ministries to develop a Kenyan center of excellence for certifying diaspora-bound professionals.
Kenya's strategic expansion in the Gulf, with the opening of the Jeddah Consulate, is part of a broader effort to position Kenya as a bridge between Africa and the Gulf. This move comes as the Gulf region experiences rapid economic, technological, and geopolitical transformation.
