Kenya’s IEBC receives ballot papers ahead of critical by-elections
The Independent Elections and Boundary Commission (IEBC) has taken delivery of ballot papers for the upcoming by-elections. The first shipment landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday evening, with a second batch arriving the following night. Officials from 51 political parties were present to witness the arrival.
IEBC chairman Erastus Ethekon confirmed the first batch’s arrival on Wednesday. Due to limited cargo space, the commission split the shipment into two. The second set of ballot papers reached Nairobi late on Thursday, with some destined for Baringo and Mbeere North.
Distribution of the ballot papers will commence on Friday, with strict security protocols in place. The IEBC’s preparations cover personnel, logistics, and the safe transport of all electoral materials. The by-elections will involve candidates from 51 registered political parties.
