Kering Confirms Massive Data Breach Affecting 1.2M Luxury Customers

Luxury fashion giant Kering has confirmed a significant data breach, affecting millions of customers from its high-end brands, including Gucci, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen. The incident, which occurred in April 2021, saw personal data of around 1.2 million individual customers compromised by a group known as Shiny Hunters.

The stolen data includes names, contact details, addresses, and spending habits of customers. Kering, the parent company, acknowledged the incident in June, initially reporting limited customer data access. However, the hackers, Shiny Hunters, claim to have data linked to 7.4 million unique email addresses. Despite the breach, financial information was not compromised.

The hackers and Kering engaged in negotiations following the incident, but these failed to reach a resolution. Kering has since notified relevant data protection authorities about the breach.

Approximately 1.2 million customers of Gucci, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen have been affected by the data breach. While no financial information was compromised, personal data including names, contacts, addresses, and spending details may have been exposed. Kering continues to investigate the incident and has assured customers that it is taking appropriate measures to prevent future occurrences.
