Kettwig Breaks Ground on €24M Modern Primary School After Years of Delay
Today marks the start of construction for a new primary school in Kettwig, on the Ruhr. The city is investing €24 million in the project, which aims to replace an old school closed in 2016 due to hazardous contamination.
The old school was demolished in 2019 and 2020 to make way for the new two-winged primary school. The new building, designed by an architect yet to be named, will accommodate around 220 students. It will feature open all-day areas, a gymnasium, an auditorium, a schoolyard, and additional rooms for teaching, technology, and administration.
The construction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027. Mayor Thomas Kufen and Muchtar Al Ghusain, Director of Youth, Education, and Culture, officially kicked off the project today.
The new primary school on Mintarder Way in Kettwig will provide a safe and modern learning environment for local students. The city's investment of €24 million reflects its commitment to education and the community.
