Ketu North plans a 24-hour market to transform local trade and economy

Ketu North Municipal Assembly is exploring locations for a new 24-hour market designed to boost the local economy. Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive, recently toured three potential sites with project consultants. The proposed 'Model Three' market would include shops, a bank, a police post, a daycare centre, and parking facilities.

The assembly initially suggested a six-acre plot along a major road for the project. However, consultants from PPMC International, led by Kwasi Aboagye, found the old market site too small, as it needed at least three acres to accommodate all essential features, including parking.

An alternative option emerged to redevelop the existing central market, which spans about 1.92 acres. The team also inspected a second site at Dzeshime, measuring roughly 1.98 acres—both still below the ideal size. Consultants noted that while two to three acres is preferred, slightly smaller spaces could work with careful design adjustments. The municipality has been asked to provide detailed layout plans for the smaller sites. These plans will help determine whether the 1.92-acre old market or the 1.98-acre Dzeshime location can be adapted. Ongoing construction and road reservations in the area may further limit usable space.

The project aims to create a fully operational 24-hour market with key amenities for the community. Consultants will review the submitted layouts to decide if the smaller sites can be made viable. A final decision on the location will follow their assessment.
