Kiel Customs Unveils 'Fehmarn' LNG-Powered Vessel on Oct 15
The Kiel Customs will launch its new vessel, the 'Fehmarn', on October 15, 2025. Dennis Rohde, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Finance, will deliver the christening speech. The 55-meter ship, equipped with an alternative LNG drive, will monitor cross-border goods traffic and enforce customs regulations in the Lübeck and Mecklenburg Bight up to the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The 'Fehmarn' is a single-hulled ship, designed for efficiency and sustainability. Its alternative LNG drive reduces emissions, aligning with the ministry's commitment to environmental responsibility. The ceremony will be open to media, with photo and film recordings, interviews, and a tour of the ship. Initially, Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner was designated as the speaker for the event, but Dennis Rohde will now deliver the speech.
The 'Fehmarn' will bolster Kiel Customs' capabilities, ensuring effective cross-border traffic monitoring and customs enforcement. The ship's christening marks a significant step towards modernising and greening the German customs fleet.
