State Banquet with 'Black Forest Martini' - King Charles Hosts Historic German State Banquet at Windsor Castle

King Charles III and Queen Camilla welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender to Windsor Castle for a state banquet. The event marked the first day of Steinmeier’s official visit—the first German state visit to the UK in 27 years. Guests enjoyed a lavish evening in the historic St. George’s Hall, where fine gifts and a special cocktail were exchanged.

The banquet began with a warm reception in St. George’s Hall, one of the grandest rooms at Windsor Castle. Steinmeier later remarked that he felt 'a little at home' in the opulent setting and thanked his hosts for their hospitality.

The state banquet celebrated long-standing ties between Germany and the UK. Steinmeier’s visit, the first of its kind in over a quarter of a century, included cultural exchanges and symbolic gestures. The evening’s gifts and hospitality underscored the importance of the diplomatic relationship.
