Klings Church Named ‘Church of the Month’ as Restoration Nears Completion
The historic Klings church in Thuringia has been named 'Church of the Month' by the Foundation for the Preservation of Church Buildings in Germany (Stiftung KiBa). Built in 1879, the Romanesque-style building remains a vital social hub for locals and the wider region. Its restoration is now nearing completion, with only the tower’s roof still requiring repairs.
The Klings church stands out with its white nave, western tower, and polygonal chancel to the east. Inside, visitors can admire a blend of traditional and modern wooden artworks, including apostle figures, a contemporary crucifix, and nativity scenes. A memorial plaque also marks the church’s long history.
Restoration work has been extensive, with nearly all sections now fully repaired. The final phase focuses on the tower’s roof, which is expected to cost around €214,000. Stiftung KiBa has contributed €15,000 toward this project, with work set to begin in spring. Since 1999, the foundation has funded over €42 million in church restoration projects across Germany. This year alone, it has allocated nearly €1.3 million in grants. Support comes from over 3,400 members nationwide through the 'Friends of Stiftung KiBa' association.
The Klings church will soon be fully restored, ensuring its place as a cultural and social centre for the community. The tower’s roof repair, backed by Stiftung KiBa’s funding, marks the final step in preserving this 19th-century landmark. The foundation’s ongoing work continues to protect Germany’s historic church buildings for future generations.
