Klosterneuburg Monastery honors 80 years of faith and launches a global initiative

Klosterneuburg Monastery, a historic site in Lower Austria, marked a significant anniversary and announced a new initiative. Provost Anton Höslinger commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Augustinian Canons' return to the monastery after World War II. Additionally, the monastery will participate in Red Wednesday for the first time on November 19, raising awareness of Christian persecution worldwide.

The monastery, founded in 1114 by Margrave Leopold III, has a rich history of faith, spirituality, and community. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner highlighted its 900-year legacy during the state holiday celebration, emphasizing its role in preserving language, traditions, and values. The monastery supports global initiatives, including the 'A Home for Street Children' association, which backs Concordia Social Projects, helping children and youth in Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Moldova since 2000.

Currently, the monastery is undergoing renovation, with a €4.4 million budget for the 2024–2027 phase. The state covers 25 percent of the costs, the federal government 20 percent, and the monastery funds over half. Upcoming projects include restoring the town wall and the ceiling fresco in the Marble Hall.

Klosterneuburg Monastery continues its mission of faith, community, and support, marking anniversaries and participating in global initiatives. Its ongoing renovation ensures the preservation of this historic site for future generations.
